"The term natural flavor or natural flavoring means the essential oil, oleoresin, essence or extractive, protein hydrolysate, distillate, or any product of roasting, heating or enzymolysis, which contains the flavoring constituents derived from a spice, fruit or fruit juice, vegetable or vegetable juice, edible yeast, herb, bark, bud, root, leaf or similar plant material, meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, dairy products, or fermentation products there of, whose significant function in food is flavoring rather than nutritional." - FDA


Where does NATURAL FLAVOR come from?

As listed by the FDA's definition, pretty much anything that is just there from flavor and that does not contain something artificially (chemically) produced then it is a natural flavor.


How is NATURAL FLAVOR made?

Natural Flavors are the creation of a work around to prevent you from knowing the secret ingredients that make products special.


Is NATURAL FLAVOR healty for me?

Yes it is, unless you are allergic to one of the secret ingredients. Just remember 'bark', you know the stuff that grows on the outside of trees is clearly listed in the FDA's list of stuff this could be.

From the FDA's list there are some things that you probably don't know what they are:

  • OLEORESIN - Definition: A naturally occurring mixture of an oil and a resin extracted from various plants, such as pine or balsam fir.
  • PROTEIN HYDROLYSATE - Is the product of the decomposition of a protein by reaction with water.
  • ENZYMOLYSIS - is a really fancy way to say rotting: biochemical decomposition, such as a fermentation.
